[shifting gears]

January 28, 2009

I cross posted an entry on a few of my other galleries and blog about trying to kick myself into high gear with my own personal art. I’ve really felt like I haven’t been doing much with my own work or work that I truely feel close to, so I sorta decided to push myself to do so. Well, in part of that push, I did create a piece I posted on a few places, including my homepage, so I figured I should post it here to. I’m also hoping this blog becomes more homely for me as I go, as this is where I post most of my personal stuff anyway. But yeah…

I recently picked up a CycloDS and installed Colors DS on it, and finally produced something with it. Just felt like sharing it.

[Lights on]

September 16, 2008

I’m up and running again after the last couple of days with no power. We were hit by some really strong winds, and now apparently our whole city is reeling from the aftermath. I heard we got hit with something like 50-90mph winds depending on where you were, and I’d believe it. Last time I saw winds this strong was when I was in Maryland a good few years back and we got brushed by a hurricane. Well, aside from not having power for a while, class has been canceled until Thursday due to the power outage. This is part of the reason why I was surprised to actually see power up in my own place of living. It is much welcomed, and hopefully things will be back in working order.

In other news, I’ve actually had time to draw for myself a little. Probably should have been working on homework, but don’t care much at this point, it just felt good to draw for myself. Especially after this past weekend. Terrible weekend. I was actually looking forward to classes, they usually put me back into good spirits. Well, this weekend, being the downer that it was, dragged me down with it and I ended up drawing something stupid. A sad horse girl of sorts. I jokingly relate it to one of those “sad girl in snow” things Piro of Megatokyo fame does, and it does make me laugh thinking about it like that. Since I’m out of school tomorrow I’ll probably work on this a little bit among finishing up some commissions and possibly homework. I plan on inking it a little and throwing some marker coloring on it as well, but I want to come up with a decent idea for the background. I have a vague one, but I need to push it a bit further before hand. And I want to try something more sketchy with the inking. I’m hoping it’ll keep some of the feeling behind it. I also sketched it out on somewhat high quality printer paper, I’m curious as to how well it’ll take to the markers and possibly some watercolor. This should be an interesting experiment I suppose, and possibly a good stress reliever. At least, that’s what I’m hoping for.

[digital figure drawings]

September 13, 2008

By the way, school started back up for me.

I noticed I hadn’t updated much all summer long. My summer was sorta like that. But yeah, school has started back up again.  I didn’t get into all the courses I wanted, but thus far I’m loving it, and my work load isn’t too stressful yet, which is nice. Can’t say much for next semester. Registration is starting soon too, so I’ll get to see just how wonderfully packed my schedule will be real soon. Yay.

Anywho, I’m taking this digital figure drawing class. Our school cleared out a room in what is pretty much a building for all that is fine arts and tossed in a bunch of those 12 inch Wacom Cintiqs. They’re pretty nice, and a lot of fun to sketch with. Might consider saving up for one of those, though it may not be a long while until I’m able to, they’re expensive little things. Well, on with the arts…

…and just for kicks.

[rough night]

July 23, 2008

Or morning I should say. Well, I had one of those images stuck in my head that I thought would be fun to draw so I went with it. Couldn’t get my initial idea to work so I played around with it until this came out. I’m having fun with this one, and I think I’ll take my time with it to make it one of my better pieces. Just a rough at the moment, hence the title, but I plan on taking this into Photoshop and coloring it up as nicely. Something along the lines of a Range Murata style. I do love the way he does his stuff.

Haven’t updated this place in ages, so figure I better do something to show I’m still kicking, even though I am so just barely. Eh, oh well. Here is are a couple quickies I’ve done recently. I feel like doodling some more tonight, if I produce anything I’ll probably put those up here as well.

[stage one...]

February 13, 2008

First stage of a project of mine for Design for Media. Figured this place might serve well for a back up, especially since I had planned on posting a few of these here anyway. This turned out a bit of fun, but I think I’ll hold off writing much more. It’s late, I have to get up early, and I want to get some sleep tonight even if it’s only a few hours. Today is my longest day of the week, and it’d be nice to have at least a little bit of rest to work with. Sadly, I don’t think it’ll do me much good. Anyway, here they are.

[moment of flow]

January 24, 2008

Browsing through the gallery of a favorite artist of mine, and got struck wanting to draw. So I found an old sketchbook made from recycled paper and doodled whatever flowed from my pencil. Then I decided to ink it. Spent maybe half an hour or so drawing and inking, and you know, I feel better. Been sorta under a lot of stress lately, and honestly haven’t been drawing for myself much. I had fun with this though. I’m beginning to think that maybe my figure drawing classes are starting to pay off a little as well. A little bit anyway.

Okay, I’ll actually keep this rather short.

Ohayocon went really well. I had a great time there. I hung out with friends, met a bunch of new people and some of my art heroes. I also managed to get a few much needed commissions. I also learned a little on how to use markers, and now I want to plan a way to get some. They are quite expensive, but man they’re wonderful.  I think I’m slowly getting over my fear of things like showing my artwork in public. It’s getting a little easier to display my work, which is a good thing. Well, time to get on with what I originally started this post for, to put up some work.

commission - Koinu-kunmorningcontemplation

Starting from the left going to the right, the colored piece is a badge I did in marker for Koinu-kun. He has a really fun character, really enjoyed doing this. The second is a piece I considered never really posting, mainly because I still don’t know what to make of it. It’s just something I wanted to try, and it’s of a character I haven’t even fully fleshed out yet, so eh. I dunno. Yes Spot, that’s the one I wanted to talk about. XD  The third is actually an older piece of mine. I was going for a more dramatic style with it. You’ll be seeing me trying to push for that a bit more where I can, I want a more dramatic style. When I look at my older pieces, they feel sorta stagnant, and I don’t like it. I want something more dramatic, a style I can tell stories with. I’ll be pushing hard for something like that, and I feel this one shows a start toward that goal.

And that’s that. Not much else to say really. Think I’ll go to bed now.

Ohayocon started yesterday, and it was my first day there as anything other than just a regular con-goer. I had registered an art table over the summer, I was sorta talked into it. So far I’ve held up against the minor furry-bashing, but there honestly hasn’t been anything really rough yet and apparently I missed the larger part of it while I was away helping my brother. Well my assumptions for an art table for me at the con were mostly right, haven’t sold a thing yet, but today I’m supposed to get a commission so we’ll see how that goes. But honestly, I’m just having fun being there. I love Ohayocon, it’s a wonderful convention. I’ll have to post some photos once I get the chance. Both my forms of cameras (digital camera and camera phone) died yesterday so I didn’t get much. But today is Saturday, the big day, so I’m sure I’ll get some great photos today. ^_^ Also, I tried out markers for the first time. I’ve always ran from them out of fear thinking there was no way I could work with them. Remembering my old days with crayola markers made me nervous, but I must say, I fell in love with Copic markers just yesterday. I didn’t color her right, but I did color up some old line art of Juno. Not the best, and the fur patterns aren’t right, but I did start to get the hang of it towards the end. It sorta looks cool if you stand far away from it. XD

[eight panel preview]

November 22, 2007

had to work on some stuff for a design class, so I figured I’d once again upload the stuff here. So here they are, seven sketchy drawings of the eight. The eighth one was digital, and frankly, too lazy to separate it out to post here. It’ll be up once I get them finished to my liking.
